Lafayette, La. – The 2021 season is almost in play, and the Cane Cutters are adding returning talent to their roster. The Cane Cutters sign one player from Louisiana Tech University (Ruston, LA) and another player from Baton Rouge Community College (Baton Rouge, LA). The Cane Cutters are bringing back the infielder Logan McLeod and outfielder Will Veillon for the upcoming 2021 season. The experience and skills of the players will continue to bring excitement for Cane Cutters organization, fans, and community as we get ready to celebrate our 10th anniversary this season.
The infielder, Logan McLeod, is a sophomore from Sour Lake, Texas. Logan attended Hardin-Jefferson High School in Sour Lake where he had a memorable high school career with the Hawk Eyes. In his junior year of high school, Logan had an exceptional batting average of .440, which ranked him second in Jefferson-Hardin High School history. Logan also came up with an 85 hit career for the Hawk Eyes, which ranked third in the school’s history. In addition, he was also honored with being a part of the Beaumont Enterprise Super Gold Second Team. For the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, Logan played seven games as a freshman and recorded one start in 2020. He was able to score a total of five runs in a shortened 2020 season and was able to capitalize on the one start he appeared in with a .500 batting average and 1 run scored. Logan appeared in 19 games for the Cane Cutters in the summer of 2020 with 14 runs and 3 RBIs for Acadiana.
The local talent, Will Veillon, is a sophomore from Rayne, Louisiana. The outfielder attended Notre Dame High School in Crowley, Louisiana where he played baseball and football with the Pioneers. For the BRCC Bears Veillon was named the BRCC Bears Offensive Player of the Year in the 2018-2019 season. That season, Will had a batting average of .324 with 176 at bats, and he racked up 57 hits with 12 doubles, 3 triples, 3 homeruns, and 43 RBIs. Veillon played in 14 games for the Cane Cutters in 2020 and lead the team with a batting average of .359. He also added 9 RBIs and 2 homeruns to the stats sheet.
