Cutters Rally Past Bombers in Series Opener07/22/2025 9:52 PM -
The Acadiana Cane Cutters opened their four-game series against the Brazos Valley Bombers with a 5-3 win on Tuesday night, riding key contributions from a newcomer and a highlight-reel defensive play to shift momentum early. Starting pitcher Jacob Baker set the tone on the mound, tossing 5.0 innings of one earned-run ball while striking out six. Baker tipped his cap to left fielder Jake Farris in the third inning after Farris robbed Amar Donatto of a home run — a game-changing catch that kept the Cutters within striking distance, down just 2-0 at the time. The catch lit a spark in the home dugout. Acadiana responded with five runs across the third and fourth innings, led by newcomer Ethan Espiricueta out of Paris Junior College. In his team debut, Espiricueta went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Farris and Jose Maldonado Jr. each drove in a run, while Parker Gwyn tallied two hits, one run scored, and a stolen base. Kade Linn closed the door with a gutsy six-out save — his fourth of the season — entering with the bases loaded and no outs in the eighth and escaping the jam unscathed. The win improves the Cane Cutters to 20-22 overall and 8-11 in the second half. Acadiana has already secured a playoff spot and will face the Baton Rouge Rougarou in the opening round. Before then, five regular-season games remain — including the final home game tomorrow night, once again against the Bombers. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. on TCL TV. |
