Cane Cutters Get Shut Out by the Generals

06/24/2012 9:41 AM -

The Cane Cutters got shut out by the Victoria Generals for the second game in a row at Fabacher Field.  They were limited to four hits total on the night.

The first two innings were scoreless for both teams.  The Generals got on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning.  Chad Kruse led off the inning with a double.  The next batter, Eric Weiss, flew out to left field advancing Kruse to third.  Brandon Tierney came up next and hit a two-run homer that put the Generals up 2-0 through the top of the third inning.

The Generals were able to put up another run in the fourth inning.  Alex Klonowski came up to lead the inning off and hit a home run on the first pitch of the at-bat.  That would be all that the Generals would put up for the inning and the game and that was all that they needed.

Mitchell Nau had a twelve-game hitting streak that was stopped in tonight’s game while going 0-3 with one walk.  The Cane Cutters had one key contributor in this game.  Braxton Lee recorded two of the four hits for his team.  He went 2-3 with a stolen base.  He also has five-game hitting streak.

Zac Person started his third game for the Cane Cutters.  He recorded the loss putting his record at 0-2 on the season.  He pitched five and one-third innings giving up three runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out four.  Kelby Langston came in relief for his eighth appearance of the season and finished off the game.  He pitched three and two-thirds innings holding the Generals hitless and giving up no runs.  He walked one and struck out four.  Langston is leading the TCL in ERA with a 1.21 average.

The Cane Cutters record is now at 10-9 and in fourth place in the TCL.  The Generals are 12-7 and two games above the Cane Cutters in third place.  The Cane Cutters will head back out on the road for a six-game road trip.  They will be off on Monday, June 25 and then travel to play the Woodlands Strykers on Tuesday for a one-game series.  The Cane Cutters lead the season series against the Strykers 1-0.  The Cane Cutters will return home on Sunday, July 1 for Slippery Sunday against the Strykers, and we will play four games at home that week, with Fireworks on July 3 by C&G Boats.
