ACADIANA WALKS-OFF AFTER OFFENSIVE BATTLE

08/05/2014 9:31 PM -

The Acadiana Cane Cutters outslugged the Woodlands Strykers on Tuesday night and won by a score of 10-9. It was game one of their final home stand of the season.

Offense and inconsistent pitching were the themes of the game as both teams were able to score early and often. The Cane Cutters took a 3-0 in the 1st inning after a single by Cameron Dishon (Ole Miss), a hit-by-the pitch, and 3 straight walks. The Stykers got one back in the top of the 2nd after a walk and an RBI single by Colten Besset. Acadiana would extend its lead to 5-1 in the bottom half of the 2nd as Cameron Dishon drove in Justin Holt (Nicholls State) with a double and then scored himself on a wild pitch.

The 3rd was rough for the Cane Cutters as the Stryker scored 6 runs to take a 7-5 lead. They had 5 straight singles followed by a walk and a huge 3 RBI triple by Nathan Halas. Acadiana would answer back with one in the 3rd on a Trent Giambrone RBI single (Jones County CC) to make it 7-6. Acadiana would keep the momentum and score 2 more runs in the bottom of the 4th after three straight singles by the meat of the Cane Cutter order. Up 8-7, Acadiana added another run in the bottom of the 5th after the Strykers walked in a run. The Stykers would not back off, however, and scored in the top of the 6th to make it 9-8. The pitchers settled down for a few innings until the bottom of the 9th when the Strykers managed to score one after a pair of errors to tie it at 9-9. In the Bottom of the 9th, Cameron Dishon got a bunt single and moved to second on an error. He reached third on a Kennon Menard (Southeastern) single. Chance Vincent then hit a clutch walk-off sacrifice fly to right field to give Acadiana the win. The Cane Cutters were walked 13 times during the game.

Nick Zaunbrecher (University of Louisiana-Lafayette) struggled on the mound during his 3 innings of work allowing 7 runs (6 earned) on 6 hits. He struck out 4. Colten Lee (Pearl River JC) was called on early out of the bullpen and threw 3.1 innings allowing a single earned run on 3 hits while striking out 4. Alec Sanchez (Texas State) threw shutout 1.2 innings and struck out 2 Strykers. Scott Ashford (Ole Miss) lost the save opportunity but did get the win after throwing in the 9th.

Cameron Dishon led the Cane Cutter offense going 3-5 with a double, 4 runs, an RBI, a walk, and a stolen base. Chance Vincent also had a good game going 1-2 with 2 RBIs, 2 runs, 3 walks, and the game winning sacrifice fly.

Scott Ashford got the win for the Cane Cutters. Hayden Barnett got the loss for the Woodlands Strykers. The Acadiana Cane Cutters are 16-9 in the 2nd half and 30-22 overall.
