Press Release: Announcement of the Acadiana Cane Cutters

09/15/2010 11:15 AM -
Richard Chalmers, with Baseball Ventures of Louisiana, LLC, is proud to announce that we have acquired a franchise in the Texas Collegiate League, which is a wooden bat league comprised of college baseball players. The team will be called the Acadiana Cane Cutters. The Texas Collegiate League, TCL, is widely regarded as the #2 summer collegiate league in the nation behind the Cape Cod League on the east coast.   Since its inception in 2003, the TCL has had hundreds of its alumni drafted by major league teams.  The TCL is heavily scouted by major league baseball, making it a desired destination for underclass collegiate baseball players during the summer. The players generally stay with host families within the community, and we hope to recruit host families for our players as well.
The Cane Cutters will play at Fabacher Field, and we’ll be making a number of improvements to the park. Our goal is to have affordable family entertainment, and to keep fans comfortable and the kids engaged. We plan to have a Kid Zone area with various fun jumps, etc. We’ll have between innings promotions and entertainment. We’ll add more reserved covered seating, and we’ll have party decks for group entertainment. The season will consist of a minimum of 28 home games and 28 road games amongst the 8 league teams.
Our management team includes Rudy Bourg as manager of marketing and promotions, and Paul Bako, retired major league baseball player, as the team advisor/mentor to assist in player acquisition and development. We are currently in discussion with a general manager and a head coach.
Our team will be owned and run by local people, and the team will own an interest in the league. The team owners are Richard and Sandi Chalmers, David and Leslie Alwell, and Rudy Bourg.
