CANE CUTTERS’ WINNING STREAK COMES TO AN END

06/13/2014 9:48 PM -

The Acadiana Cane Cutters lost 2-1 in extra innings to the East Texas Pump Jacks after a walk off single in the 10th inning. The loss ended the Cane Cutters’ 4 game winning streak.

Both teams struggled to put up runs against strong starting pitching until the 5th inning when the Pump Jacks went up 1-0. The Cane Cutters answered in the 7th when James Ziegler (Chandler-Gilbert CC) drove in Chance Vincent (Alabama). The score remained 1-1 until the 10thwhen Nick Rabat hit a walk off single.

Cody Coll (Western Kentucky) started and was excellent on the mound for the Cane Cutters going 6 innings while scattering 3 hits and giving up just one run. He kept East Texas uncomfortable at the plate all night and was able to strike out 5. Coll was relieved by Scott Szush (Southeastern) who was making his 2nd appearance of the year. Szush threw 3.1 innings and struck out 3 Pump Jacks. Alec Sanchez (Texas State) came in with 2 runners on in the 10th and gave up a run, which was credited to Szush.

The Cane Cutters had a hard time scoring but did get on the board after Chance Vincent had a big single and an RBI. Vincent played for the Cane Cutter last year and also went to a local high school. James Ziegler was 1-4 on the night with a run scored. Hunter Wood (Western Kentucky) and Trent Giambrone (Jones County CC) continued their strong starts to the season with a hit a piece.

Catcher Nick Rabat had the big game for the Pump Jacks going 2-4 with 2 RBIs including the game winner.
