The Acadiana Cane Cutters open up a two-game home series against the defending Texas Collegiate League Champion East Texas Pump Jacks on Saturday and Sunday night at Fabacher Field.

Series 5

East Texas Pump Jacks (4-3) at Acadiana Cane Cutters (1-7)

Saturday June 8, 2013 - 7:00 PM

Sunday June 9, 2013 - 7:00 PM

Now that the Cane Cutters have finished their first road trip of the season, a trip in which the Cane Cutters dropped all four of their games by just two runs or less, they will return home to Fabacher Field to face the East Texas Pump Jacks in a two-game series. Acadiana’s record now stands at (1-7) on the summer, as they ran into two red-hot teams during their trip, one of which, Brazos Valley, is still undefeated. Last Tuesday and Wednesday, the Cane Cutters visited East Texas, losing both games in heartbreaking fashion. Tuesday night’s game, probably the harder of the two to swallow, saw the Canes holding a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the sixth, and a 4-2 lead in the eighth. Wednesday night’s game was also a tough one for the Cutters, as they lost by two tallies in a very close contest.

The Cane Cutters have picked up some key players along the way, as Texas A&M catcher Mitchell Nau will start behind the plate for Cane Cutters now that he has completed his season with the Aggies. Nau is expected to come in and provide veteran leadership, while bringing a strong approach at the plate. During his first appearance this season, Nau notched one hit in three at-bats, while walking once against the Brazos Valley Bombers last night. Pitchers Kyle Cedotal and Jake Winston had a couple of outstanding starts on the mound for the Cane Cutters this week, pitching for a combined 13 innings while giving up just 4 runs while striking out 11. If Acadiana continues to get high-quality pitching performances they will begin piling on the wins.

The East Texas Pump Jacks are coming off of a 1-1 series split against the Victoria Generals. Many runs were scored during the series, as both teams showed off their bats and tried to outslug one another into submission. On Thursday, the Pump Jacks recorded victory number four on the season, winning 9-6 behind a strong performance by third baseman Joey Armstrong, who hit four singles and drove in four runs in five at-bats. On Friday, the Pump Jacks found themselves unable to find a rhythm in any facet of the game, losing 12-5 to Victoria. Pitcher Jake Beam was touched up for four runs in the fifth and was eventually taken out of the inning. The Pump Jacks could not get much going at the plate, either. Though they were able to get eight hits, Generals’ pitching was able to spread the hits out over the entirety of the game, making it difficult for the Pump Jacks to get anything started. Look for Canes’ batters to break out of their slump against East Texas’ struggling pitching staff, and for Cutters’ pitchers to stifle the Pump Jacks bats this weekend.

It will be more than just baseball at Fabacher Field this weekend, as Acadiana will be hosting a couple of exciting and meaningful promotions everyone can enjoy! On Saturday night, June 8th, the Cane Cutters will hold Military Appreciation Night, during which all attending military personnel, active or retired, will be honored during the game. All military personnel and their families can get in FREE to the game Saturday night courtesy of Frank’s International, Acadiana Dodge, and AMPOL. There will be U.S. Military Americana on-site from the Louisiana Military Hall of Fame and Museum, Civil War reenactors, and more exhibits that you don't want to miss. Come out to Salute American’s heroes this Saturday!

This Sunday, the Cane Cutters will host FM Bank Bark at the Park. Bring your furry, four-legged friends to the park and they will be treated to a dog biscuit during the game and even the opportunity to participate in one of the many fun games the Cutters will have going on between innings on-field. Fabacher Field will also have a television in the Double Play Corner presented by Audio Video Innovators tonight and tomorrow night to allow die-hard Tigers’ fans a chance to check-in on the LSU Super Regional score.
