Cutters fall short 14-13, in late comeback attempt to Gumbeaux Gators

07/02/2025 12:46 PM -

The Acadiana Cane Cutters nearly pulled off a historic rally in their first game of the second half, clawing back from a 10-run deficit before falling just short, 14-13, to the Lake Charles Gumbeaux Gators at Fabacher Field.

The night started rough for the Cutters, with starter Miles Justin struggling out of the gate. The Gators tagged him for six runs on seven hits in just 1.1 innings, forcing an early trip to the bullpen. Jordan Thompson, Colt Lejeune, and Kade Linn followed in relief, combining to allow five more runs. The lone bright spot on the mound came in the 9th from Isaiah Castaneda, who shut the door with a clean inning — no hits, no runs.

Despite the early hole, the Cutters refused to fold. The offense showed resilience and energy, blending disciplined plate appearances with classic small-ball execution. Acadiana drew 12 walks and scattered 7 hits, keeping constant pressure on Lake Charles.

Eight of the nine Cutters in the lineup either scored or drove in a run, with the only exception being 9-hole hitter Aaren Marshall. Peyton Woods, Colton Harrison, and Jake LaRocca each crossed the plate three times, while Woods, Harrison, and Latulis tallied multiple RBIs. The momentum peaked in the 8th inning when Parker Gwyn reached third base as the tying run with one out, but the Cutters couldn’t push him across.

Acadiana drops to 12-12 on the season and 0-1 in the second half, but the offensive firepower on display offers hope for the future. They'll get another crack at the Gators tomorrow night in the series finale. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. on TCL TV.
