A Weekend Pitching Duel Results in a Close 3-1 Win For The Cane Cutters Over The Victoria Generals

Acadiana, LA | June 29, 2025

As the first half of the 2025 Texas Collegiate League season starts to wrap up, game one of the Generals vs the Cane Cutters saw a Military Appreciation Night pitching duel for a close 3-1 win for Acadiana.

The Cane Cutters dominated on the mound only using two pitchers on the night. LSU Eunice’s Hayden Toal went five innings allowing the lone run while allowing five hits and striking out three. Jacob Baker, who normally is in the starting rotation, got his innings fill out of the bullpen finishing out the game with a save, throwing the last four innings allowing three hits, no runs and striking out four to lower his ERA to a wild 0.42 ERA.

On the other side with the bats, it didn’t take much to take the lead and keep it. After going down 1-0 in the third, the Cutters would score two runs in the fourth inning on a Jake LaRocca RBI basehit and a Parker Gwyn fielder's choice. The final run to be scored of the game came later in the seventh inning on a Dylan Biddick RBI double.

With Victoria able to put up eight hits and Acadiana with nine of their own, both teams were able to get on base but strong pitching from both sides diminished any chance for either team to capitalize any more than the 3-1 finish,

The win improves the Acadiana Cane Cutters to twelve and ten on the season and continues to prepare them in this final week of June for the second half starting on July 1st. Acadiana looks to keep up their winning ways Sunday night on June 29th for game two against the Generals with a Bark in the Park night at Fabacher Field.
