First Inning Scoring Surge Leads Acadiana Cane Cutters to 7-3 Win Over Brazos Valley Bombers

Acadiana, LA | June 7, 2025

The Cane Cutters started Saturday night’s game on fire after being down 1-0 going into the bottom of the fourth tallying four hits, a walk, a hit by pitch and taking advantage of a throwing error by Brazos Valley to put up six runs in the first inning.

Trevor Durr led the charge with two rbi’s on the night being one of six Cane Cutters to tally an RBI in the win. But the bats would calm down, only scoring one more run in the game in the sixth on a Christian Hallmark sacrifice fly.

On the mound it was a collection of arms that shut down the Bombers. LSU Eunice’s Hunter Gambel took the bump to open up the game going three innings and giving up two runs on three hits. Trey Usey carried the middle innings, pitching innings four through seven giving up three hits, one run and tallying five strikeouts.

Quinn Smith and Hudson Spangler would hold the last two innings throwing one inning each not allowing a single hit and combining for three strikeouts.

The win improves the Cane Cutters to three and two on the season and first back-to-back wins of the season. Acadiana hosts Brazos Valley once again tomorrow night to wrap up the homestand at 7 PM celebrating 15 years of Acadiana Cane Cutters baseball.
