Hello ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the newest season of Acadiana Cane Cutters Baseball! We are looking forward to a great summer, beginning with Opening Night served by Sonic Drive-In, tonight, at Fabacher Field against the Brazos Valley Bombers! First pitch is set for 7:00 PM.
The opening series will be a fantastic opportunity for Cane Cutters fans to get a first look at this year’s team and to gauge the level of competition in the Texas Collegiate League. This is Coach Lonny Landry’s third season leading the Cane Cutters, and his experience will be vital to the team’s success. Though some of the players for each team in the TCL will still have not arrived due to university baseball obligations (Regionals, Championships, etc.), there will be plenty of talent on the field, and each game is sure to be a spectacle.

Acadiana Cane Cutters will feature Alabama freshman Colton Freeman starting on the mound Thursday night, with Northwestern State catcher Vaughn Shapen behind the plate. The infield will consist of University of Arkansas' big first baseman Mike Parker, who recently attended a workout for the Minnesota Twins, Connor Barron of Southern Miss at second, Southeastern utility player Gabe Woods at third, and Stephen F. Austin starter Brett Thornell at shortstop. Finally, Coach Lonny Landry will start University of the Ozarks standout Freddie Prince in left field, Kyle Cedotal from Southeastern in center, and rounding our outfielders, Oklahoma State freshman Blake Brom will get the nod in right.

Brazos Valley will send a plethora of excellent players from many colleges around the Texas area. Junior lefty pitchers Zac Curtis from Middle Tennessee State University and Jason Gareri from Northwood University bring a strong lift and veteran presence to an already experienced staff of pitchers, while outfielders Ryan Aper, an excellent hitter form Lincoln Land Community College and left-handed batting Brett Kauten, formerly of Kansas State University and Lubbock Christian University, will look to add some power to a strong Bombers lineup. Also, keep an eye out for Texas A&M freshman right-handed pitcher Rex Hill, Northwood University’s right-handed hitting outfielder Herb Romero, and returning Brazos Valley outfielder Austin Gallego. Infielders G.R. Hinsley of Paris Junior College and Patrick McLendon from Junior College are sure to play excellent defense for the Bombers as well.

Tonight is Opening Night served by Sonic Drive-In, and we will have many festivities on hand for the celebration. We will be holding our first Thirsty Thursday of the season in which all 10 ounce cans of Bud and Bud Light will be only $1! There will be a flyover, first pitch airdrop, and many more fun events throughout the night. Tickets are available online or you can call 337.451.6582 for more details.

Tomorrow night will be Buffalo Wild Wings Meal Night and the first C & G Boats Fireworks Friday of the season. After the completion of the game, we will have a fireworks show, kicking off the beginning of our summer season. Immediately following the show, all fans are invited to Buffalo Wild Wings for a meet and greet with players, everyone’s favorite mascot Eddy, and the rest of the Cane Cutters staff from Fabacher Field. So come on out to the opening series against the Brazos Valley Bombers starting tonight! Hope to see you here!
