Cutters Still Making Improvements as the Opener Closes In

05/26/2013 12:48 PM -

With the first pitch of 2013 knocking on the door, Head Coach Lonny Landry leaves no stone unturned in his quest for the Cane's first Texas Collegiate League title.
Texas Collegiate League summer baseball makes its return to Louisiana this Thursday night at Fabacher Field for Opening Night 2013 served by Sonic Drive-In. In an already outstandingly busy week for the team, Head Coach Lonny Landry made two solid, last minute additions to an already high-profile Cane Cutters’ roster.
The Cutters reached into the Big 12 Conference today and came to terms with Oklahoma State outfielder Blake Brom, then added to their SEC depth by signing pitcher Jeff Oracion from the University of Missouri.
6’1” freshman right-hander Blake Brom from Oklahoma State will be about as fresh and as eager as they come when first pitch rolls around on Thursday night. The Cowboys tagged Brom, a first-team all-district and second-team all-state honoree as a senior in high school, with the redshirt designation this spring. Last season he did it all at Rider High School in Wichita Falls, Texas, hitting .369 from the dish and even contributing an impressive 2.18 ERA from the hill. Expect the Coach Landry and the Canes to deploy Brom in the corner outfield come this summer.

Junior righty Jeff Oracion will also call Acadiana home for the next few months. The Missouri Tiger pitcher is a recent transfer from Paris Junior College, and is also prepared to have his number called on a lot this summer. Oracion tallied 20 punchouts in 31 innings for Paris JC, while earning a 3.19 ERA.

Additionally, the Cane Cutter’s Front Office announced some exciting new promotions to be featured at Fabacher Field this season. Aspen Clinic will bring fans a Night at the Ballgame on Friday June 14th, where fans of all ages are encouraged stay after the game to throw the ball on the field with family, friends, and Cane Cutters’ players under the lights! Later this summer, Lafayette Coca-Cola will wish us all a “Merry Christmas Eve in July” on the Wednesday night home game versus the Victoria Generals on July 24. Come prepared to bundle up for a festive evening of holiday songs and cheer, with a special visit from a vacationing St. Nick himself!
