08/01/2012 9:55 PM -
PRESS RELEASE  8/1/12   CANES SPLIT  WITH VICTORIA GENERALS IN DOUBLE HEADER
The Cane Cutters dropped  the first game to the Victoria Generals.  Sean Kennel started pitching.  The Generals scored early in the first inning on Chad Kruse's double.  The Cane Cutters answered when Almann Snowden hit a single in the second inning.  Isaac Rodriguez's sac bunt moved Snowden o second, and Austin Roussel's single moved him to 3rd.  Snowden then scored on a catcher error.
The Generals scored three runs in the sixth inning, and the Cane Cutters scored one run in the sixth inning, when Brett Thornell hit a single, and he scored on Almann Snowden's double to right field.  That ended the scoring for the game, so the Generals put the last nail in the coffin when they scored another run in the seventh inning, bringing the final score to 5-2.
In the second game, Cody Tillotson began pitching but was taken out due to an injury.  The Cane Cutters  started off in the 3rd inning when Tyler Kamtz of University of New Mexico hit a single, and advanced to second on a passed ball.   He was moved to third on pitcher Ben Suit's bunt, and he was scored by Isaac Rodriguez's (Southern Miss) single.
The Generals scored in the fifth on Brandon Tierney's single to tie it up, and that would be their last score in the game.  The seven inning game went to extra innings still tied at 1-1.  Things looked promising in the 8th inning when Rodriguez walked and moved over on Thornell's groundout.  Rodriguez then moved to third on an error by the third baseman, and rounded third for home, but he was thrown out at home by the left fielder.
The Cane Cutters winning pitcher, Andrew Richardson of ULM, managed to shut down the Generals in the 8th and 9th innings, and then his team rallied behind him in the 9th inning, when Almann Snowden ULL started off the 9th inning with a single.  He then moved to second on Tanner Vandervere's  (Meridian CC) sac bunt.  Then Tyler Kamtz hit his third single of the game to bring Snowden home as the winning run.  Kamtz went 3 for 4 in the game.
The Cane Cutters are off tomorrow and head to the Woodlands to play on Friday, back to Alexandria on Saturday, and they will be back at home on Sunday, August 5, against the Pump Jacks at 7:00 for Slippery Sunday, with a WATERSLIDE.  Come out and support your Cane Cutters!!
