Four RBI Day for Fisher Norris Leads Cane Cutters Past Baton Rouge

07/12/2019 12:51 PM -

Youngsville, LA (July 11, 2019). Despite the threat of a hurricane warning in southern Louisiana, the Cane Cutters were able to get their game in against Baton Rouge. Even with a slight delay in the start time, it didn’t affect the overall performance of the Cane Cutters.

Fisher Norris (Southern Miss) was bad news for the opposing pitchers on Thursday, driving in four on three hits to lead the Cane Cutters past Baton Rouge 10-2. Norris drove in runs on a triple in the first and a single in the fifth.

The Cane Cutters got on the board in the first inning when Ryan Carr (Notre Dame) singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run.

Five runs were put up in the fifth inning. Alex Hannie (ULL), Norris, and Trace Henry (ULM) powered the big inning with RBIs. Henry took a pitch to the face on Tuesday night when playing Brazos Valley, sending him to the hospital. Henry powered through and helped his team take the victory over Baton Rouge.

The bats were hot for the Cane Cutters. They tallied 14 hits on the day. Norris, Zavier Moore (Southern), Carr, Henry, and Champ Artigues (Southeastern Louisiana) each had multiple hits. Norris led the Cane Cutters with three hits in five at bats; giving him Powerade Player of The Game honors for the first time this summer.

Nick Hill (Nicholls State) earned the victory on the hill for the Cane Cutters. He last five innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out one. A number of pitchers entered the game as relief, with Matthew Delcambre (UNO), Brice Armistead (Blinn CC), Hunter Stafford (Delta State), and Bryson Broussard (LSU-A) all securing outs and ultimately the victory.

Cortlynn Ramierz took the loss for Baton Rouge. He lasted four innings, allowing eight hits and nine runs while striking out three.
