Cane Cutters add Four Southern Miss Players to 2019 Roster

The Acadiana Cane Cutters are pleased to announce that we will have four players joining us for the 2019 season from the University of Southern Mississippi. Joining our roster will be Logan McGrew, Fisher Norris, Hunter Leblanc, and Josh Lewis.

Catcher Logan McGrew is a 6’1 Junior from Sumrall, Mississippi majoring in Liberal Studies. McGrew was named second team All-Metro during his senior year in high school. He was also recently named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for the 2018 Fall Semester. During his sophomore year at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, he had a batting average of .333, with 12 doubles, two homeruns, 36 RBI, and 34 runs scored.  During his freshman year, McGrew batted .358 with 9 doubles, two home runs, and 30 RBI. He finished his freshman season on an eight-game hitting streak.

Infielder Fisher Norris is a 6’3 Freshman from Seminary, Mississippi majoring in Exploratory Studies. During his senior season at Seminary High School, he helped his team reach the Class 3A state championship. He was recently named to the Dean’s List during the Fall 2018 semester. During his time at Seminary High School, Norris produced a career batting average of .423 with 41 doubles, seven triples, 15 home runs and 145 RBI. He was walked 129 times, and only struck out 27 times during his entire high school career. He has collected several awards in his baseball career, such as Rookie of the Year, Most Valuable Player honors, Home Run and Cy Young awards, and was the Salutatorian of his high school. He was named First-Team-All-State, as well as the All-USA Mississippi team. He also played in the Mississippi Class 3A/4A All Star game.

Outfielder Hunter Leblanc is a 6’1 Freshman from Luling, Louisiana majoring in Public Health. He was named all-district three times during his time at Hahnville High School. He also earned Louisiana Player of the week honors as well as an invite to the 2018 Louisiana All-Star Game. In his debut season with Southern Miss., he batted an average of .194. He has played in 16 games this season and started for 6 of them. In 31 at bats, he has seven runs, six hits, one double, one homerun, and six RBI. His slugging percentage is .323 with five walks and eight strike outs. His on-base percentage is .306 and his fielding percentage is .833.

Pitcher Josh Lewis is a 6’1 Junior from Theodore, Alabama majoring in Biomedical Science. During his time with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Lewis had over 13 starts with an earned run average of 2.48. He had 76 strikeouts in over 80 innings. He was named a third-team NJCAA Student-Athlete award. He debuted with Southern Miss. during their 2019 season. His earned run average was 6.43. He has appeared in 10 games while starting in one game. He has given up 22 hits on 14 runs, with the batting average against him being .386. He has pitched 14 total innings for Southern Miss., with 11 strikeouts.
