CANE CUTTERS SWEEP GENERALS WITH WALK-OFF WIN

07/21/2018 9:56 PM -

YOUNGSVILLE, La. (July 21, 2018)- In a close game against the Victoria Generals, the Acadiana Cane Cutters were able to walk it off in the ninth inning to get the sweep with a score of 4-3.

Powerade Player of the Game Storme Cooper put the Cane Cutters on the board first with a home run over the left field wall in the second inning. He continued his offensive campaign with an RBI double in the fourth. The Cutters were able to tie the game in the fifth after they loaded the bases and Generals pitcher balked in Connor Manola. The Cane Cutters once again loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth with two hit-by-pitch runners and a walk. Mason Corbett was the third player hit by a pitch to bring in Cooper for the winning run.

The Cane Cutters executed some great defense as well, getting out of a bases loaded jam in the eighth and managing a botched suicide squeeze play in the ninth that resulted in two outs. Alex Nelms started on the mound and proceeded to strike out seven batters in five innings. Tyler Booth took over in the sixth to retire the side before allowing Kyle Bayles, usually an outfielder, to come in for the win and record two strikeouts.

The Cutters will be back at Fabacher Field again Tuesday (7/24) against the Victoria Generals. Gates open at 6 PM and first pitch is at 7 PM for all home games. To get weekly updates on the team and other fun theme nights coming up, please visit our website and subscribe to our newsletter.
