Cane Cutters Fall Short in Game One Against the Generals

06/04/2018 9:02 PM -

Victoria, TX (June 4, 2018) The Acadiana Cane Cutters hit the road this week for the first of a six-game road trip thoughout the week. They faced off against the Victoria Generals Monday night in Riverside Stadium in Victoria, TX, where they dropped the first game of a two-game series with a final score of 8-2.

The Generals loaded the bases with Cane Cutters in the top of the first inning, but a putout at third prevented them from scoring. The Cutters produced a 6-4-3 double play to end the second inning but the Generals managed to put four runs on the scoreboard.

After the Generals scored 2 more in third, the Cutters sent in number 4, Phillip Vidrine (LA College), to take over on the mound for starting pitcher Marcus Olivarez (Lamar).  Vidrine pitched five innings, facing nineteen batters and only allowed two runs, none of which were earned. Ragin Cajun, Jimmy Dobrash (ULL), relieved Vidrine in the eighth and produced a scoreless inning.

The Cutters attempted to rally in the ninth.  Trey Harrington (SE Louisiana) was walked by the General’s pitcher to start the inning and advanced to second on a single by Brady Atkins (LA College). Brandon Duhon (Delgado) was also walked, bringing up Rhett McCall (Lamar) for his fifth at-bat of the night.  McCall singled bringing in Harrington for the Cutter’s first run.  Mason Corbett (Texas A&M) was then putout but not before Atkins scored the second Cutter run.

McCall was 3-5 and Corbett was 2-5 and both with RBIs throughout tonight’s game.  The Cutters will play at the Victoria Generals again tomorrow night.  To watch the game live, visit canecuttersbaseball.com and click on UStream link on the home page.
