Rain Fails To Cool Off Cutter Bats

08/02/2017 11:50 PM -

After a rain delay of 1 hour, 25 minutes the Cane Cutters marched to an 18-1 victory over the Texas Marshals on Wednesday night.

Despite the rain, the Cane Cutters bats started out red hot, with seven of the first eight batters recording hits that resulted in six runs. The highlight of the six run outburst was a 2 run double by third baseman Justin Damary (Minot St) to deep left center that scored Turner Francis (ULM) and Brandon Duhon (Delgado CC). Daniel Lahare (ULL) and Brady Bell (Nichols St) would come across with the seventh and eighth runs in the bottom of the second and third, while starter Austin Brown (LaGrange) continued to mow down Marshals. From the first to the end of his outing in the fifth, Brown retired 14 straight batters and ended up with a final pitching line of one hit, one walk and five strikeouts over five frames to earn Player of the Game honors. Acadiana would add five runs in the fifth to put the game out of reach at 13-0. A run in the top of the sixth would ruin the shutout, but pitchers Bailey Hargrave (Meridian) and Hayden Marze (Mississippi St) would contribute an RBI double and sacrifice fly respectively as the Cane Cutters would add five more runs in the seventh and eighth combined to finish off the scoring.

Festivities at Fabacher start early tomorrow, as the Little League Home Run Derby will get underway at 5:30pm before the Cutters take on the Marshals at 7pm. Age groups for the Derby include 8-and-under, 9-11 and 12-and-up. To enter into the Derby, call the front office at 337-451-6582 and ask for Chase.
