Cutters Win 8-2, Complete Sweep of Bombers

07/30/2017 10:36 PM -

An 8-2 win on Sunday night completed a sweep of the three game series between Acadiana and the Brazos Valley Bombers in the last regular season matchup between the two teams.

Gavin Bougeois (ULL) earned Player of the Game honors due to his 2-for-3 performance. In addition to his two hits, Gavin picked up a pair of walks, a pair of runs batted in and a stolen base.

Turner Francis (ULM) started the scoring in the bottom of the first, when his RBI single scored Bourgeois, before Nathan Gabryszwski (Lamar) was tagged out at the plate trying to stretch the lead to 2-0. Brazos Valley would tie the game in the top of the third, but an RBI triple from Daniel Lahare (ULL) would score Bourgeois for the second time in three innings to restore the lead at 2-1. A bases loaded walk in the top of the sixth tied the game at two, before the bottom of the inning provided a lot of fireworks. The Cane Cutters would score five times to go up 7-2, highlighted by a controversial home run off the bat of Brady Bell (Nichols St) that started the scoring in the frame. Throughout the inning there were a number of contested calls, and the Bombers manager would end up earning the first ejection that Fabacher Field has seen this summer. The Cutters would add the final run of the contest in the bottom of the eighth when Bougeois had an RBI single that scored Cain Castille (McNeese).

Gavin and the rest of the Cane Cutters will finish out their regular season series against the Texarkana Twins with a pair of road games on Monday and Tuesday before returning to Fabacher Field to take on the Texas Marshals on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. The Wednesday game will be the third and final Library Night of the summer, where tickets earned via the reading program at the public libraries can be redeemed for free and will also feature the last Humpday Happy Hour of the season, with $1 beers from 6-7pm leading up to first pitch. Thursday will be the Little League Home Run Derby night, featuring pregame home run derby contests for the age groups of 8-and-under, 9-11 and 12-plus. To enter into the Derby, call the front office at 337-451-6582 and ask for Chase.
