Cane Cutters Return To Action With A Victory

06/27/2017 10:30 PM -

Brady Bell (Nichols St) earned Player of the Game honors, going 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored and a run batted in on a solo home run. Bell’s home run came in the top of a second, with two balls and one strike and at the time tied the game at 1-1. The Cane Cutters would take the lead an inning later, and then in the fifth would pick up an insurance run when Trenton Trosclair (Southeastern Louisiana) scored on the front end of a double steal which saw Logan Bottrell (New Mexico St) thrown out at second. Texas would tie the game on a 2-run single in the bottom of the fifth, but Acadiana would retake the lead soon after. A Bottrell single in the top of the seventh would score Bell to make the score 4-3 and Gabe Montenegro (Southern Miss) would round out the scoring with an RBI double that scored Jonathon Artigues (Tulane) in the top of the eighth. The Marshals would threaten in the bottom of the ninth, loading the bases, but Hunter Speer (Nichols St) struck out Jaylen Keys to end the game.

The Cane Cutters will take on the Marshals again tomorrow before traveling to Texarkana, Texas to face the Texarkana Twins on Thursday and Friday and will return to Fabacher Field on Saturday, July 1 when they host the Victoria Generals.
