Cutters Get Back In Win Column With 8-1 Victory

06/14/2017 10:20 PM -

The Cane Cutters came away from Nutrabolt Stadium with an 8-1 win on Wednesday night. With the win, Acadiana improves to 10-6 on the season, just two games behind the first-place Brazos Valley Bombers.

Austin Brown (LaGrange) earned Player of the Game honors for a throwing complete game victory. He finished the contest allowing just one earned run on six hits while walking only one and striking out six Bombers hitters.

After a second inning sacrifice fly put the Bombers ahead 1-0, Acadiana’s bats backed Brown for the rest of the night. Logan Bottrell (New Mexico St) tied the game at one with a sacrifice fly of his own in the top of the third, and then the Cane Cutters put a 3-spot on the board in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead. A Brady Bell (Nicholls St) RBI fielder’s choice in the fifth stretched the lead to 5-1 before Turner Francis (UL Monroe) provided the offensive highlight of the night with a two-run homerun in the seventh to push the advantage to 7-1. Trenton Trosclair (Southeastern Louisiana) finished off the scoring by providing an RBI groundout in the top of the ninth. Francis would finish the night 1-for-3 with his homerun to go along with 2 walks and 2 runs scored while centerfielder Daniel Lahare (ULL) finished the night 2-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored.

Austin and the rest of the Cane Cutters will continue their road trip on Saturday when they take on the Texarkana Twins at 7pm and will return to Fabacher Field on Monday, June 19 to face the Victoria Generals during a special Father’s Day celebration at the stadium.
