Bombers Take Game 1

07/17/2015 6:28 AM -

A pitching battle was in store for game one against the Brazos Valley Bombers early in the game. However it got away from your Cane Cutters. The Cane Cutter lost 5-0.

It moves your Cane Cutters record to 4-7 as the Bombers move to 9-2.

Scott Szush (Southeastern Louisiana) got the start for the Cane Cutters. He pitched 7.0 innings, allowing 4 hits, 3 runs, and striking out 3.

The top of the second was looking like a potential breakthrough on offense against the tough Bomber’s team. The leadoff batter Adam Yacek singled to left field. Yacek was 2-4 on the night with a strikeout. Joe Robbins (ULL) then came in and grounded out into a fielders choice. Connor Short next singled to move runners to first and second. Alex Tucker (Nicholls State) would then single to load the bases. However with the bases loaded the team would fail to score as Evan Williams (TCU) flew out to left field.

The starting pitcher for the Bombers was Darick Hall. Hall pitched 4.2 innings, allowing 6 hits with 2 strikeouts. He was pulled before 5 innings of work for the Cane Cutters did get to him early with 6 hits through 4 innings.

After Hall was pulled C.J. Gregory, for the Bombers, came in and pitched 3.1 innings, allowing only one hit while recording 3 strikeouts. Clay Brast (McNeese State) then came in during the top of the 8th and gave up two quick runs to push the score to 5-0.

Your Cane Cutters were unable to even the score in the final few innings as Gregory stayed strong on the mound.
