Cane Cutters crush slumping Aces, 14-8

07/26/2011 1:02 PM - " ALEXANDRIA — So far, the second half of the Texas Collegiate Baseball League hasn't been quite as much fun for the Acadiana Cane Cutters as the first half.

The Cane Cutters certainly had plenty of fun on Monday, though, cruising past the Alexandria Aces 14-8 at Bringhurst Field.

Acadiana improved to 7-8 in the second half with the win after qualifying for postseason play with a second-place finish in the third half. The Aces dropped to 3-12 with the loss. The two teams will play again in Alexandria tonight.

Leading only 2-1 going to the third inning, the Cutters exploded for eight runs in the third to put the game away for good. Taylor Dugas singled and stole second to ignite the two-run first ahead of RBI singles from Les Aulds and Brett Thornell, who finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs.

Michael Barba was hit by a pitch and Jordan Bourque singled to set the table in the decisive third. Thornell had a two-run single, Adam Seal a two-run double and Dugas added a two-run double of his own to power the explosive frame.

Thornell was in the middle of it again in the sixth when he doubled ahead of an RBI double by Caleb Clowers.

The beneficiary of all that support is former St. Thomas More pitcher Clayton Dugan, who allowed three runs on five hits, two walks and struck out four in five innings for the win."
