Cutters Split

06/13/2015 6:23 AM -

The Cane Cutters split their series with the Brazos Valley Bombers as they played the last game of their 2 game series.

The Cane Cutters struck early as Adam Yacek (University of Miami of Ohio) singled in Zak Kutsulis (Notre Dame) for the first run of the ballgame in the top of the 1st inning.

The lead would be short-lived as the Bombers tripled in a run to tie the game 1-1 in the bottom of the 2nd inning.

The game quickly turned into a pitching duel as both starting pitchers would not allow another run.

The starting pitcher for your Cane Cutters was Nick McCarty (Notre Dame). He struggled to find the strike zone in the 1st 2 innings, but settled down nicely beginning in the 3rd inning. McCarty went 6 innings, allowing 1 run, walking 2, while striking out 4 Bombers.

Mike Walker started for the Bombers and took a 1 hit bid into the 9th inning. He finished giving up 3 hits, a run, issuing 3 walks, while striking out 5 batters.

The Bombers scored the final 4 runs on a double and 2 singles in the bottom of the 7th inning as they won 5-1.

On a positive note, Clay Brast (McNeese State University) came in relief for your Cane Cutters and struck out 2 batters in the bottom of the 8th inning, without allowing a run.

Mike Walker gets the win and Joey Cresta (Notre Dame) is credited with the loss.

The Cane Cutters fall to 8-5 on the season.

They will return home Saturday June 13th against the Marshals for a 7:15 start. Saturday’s game will be military appreciation night.
