Cane Cutters Stay Hot

06/01/2015 6:49 AM -

The first place Acadiana Cane Cutters look to keep the winning streak going with a match up against the Marshals. The two game series was supposed to start on Saturday, but due to weather conditions we would play game one on Sunday.

On the mound for the Cane Cutters tonight was Clay Brast. Brast struggled to fine the strike zone as he struck out 1 batter walked 4 and gave up 1 run.

Daniel Martinez made an early appearance from the bullpen, replacing Brast after 1.2 innings.

Martinez wasted no time in his first appearance of the season with striking out 4 and only giving up 3 hits in 4.1 innings of work.

The bats would remain silent until the top of the 8th. Seward (2-3) would reach first on the first of two walks issued to him. He would go onto steal 2nd and take 3rd on an error. Braley would drive him in with a sacrifice hit, tying the game at 1.

The Cane Cutters would take their first lead of the game in the top of the 9th, thanks to the heads up base running by Connor Short. Daniel Keating would drive in short with a 2 out single to make it 2-1.

The 2-1 lead would be cut short, as Pitcher Alec Sanchez walked in the tying run for the Marshals.

We would go to extras tied at two, but would only need to play 10, as the Cane Cutters went off in a big way!

Seward would start the inning with a walk, followed up with singles from Barrett and Yacek.

With the bases loaded and 1 out, the Cane Cutters turned to Leiff Clarkson.

Clarkson only had 1 hit in the game, but he would make it count. His 2 run double would give the Cane Cutters a 4-2 lead, with Yacek at third.

Alex Tucker would hit a 2 out fly to center that would drop in for an error, sending Yacek and Clarkson home.

With the score 6-2, Alec Sanchez would be sent back out to finish the inning.

Sanchez would go onto walk Texas Marshals Connor McMann to lead off the inning. McMann would later come onto score off of a sacrifice hit, making it 6-3.

With 2 outs in the inning, head coach Lonny Landry turned to pitcher Jared Taylor.

Taylor would get the much needed out by picking up the save and giving Sanchez the win.

The Cane Cutters remain in first place with a 3-0 start to the season.

The Cane Cutters will head to Tyler on Tuesday to take on the East Texas Pump Jacks for a 2 game series.

They will return home Saturday June 6th against the Generals. Game 2 of the series will be played on a Duhons Slippery Sunday. All kids can take turns on the Water Slide for FREE from 6-7pm. June 7th is also Star Wars night! All fans are encouraged to dress up as their favorite Star Wars characters and take picture with members of the 501st.
