CANE CUTTERS LOSE ON WALK-OFF, OUSTED FROM PLAYOFFS

08/09/2014 9:48 PM -

The Acadiana Cane Cutters lost their semifinal playoff game on the road against the Victoria Generals tonight by a score of 4-3. It was a very dramatic extra inning game, as neither team wanted their season to end.

The Generals got on the board first scoring one run in the bottom of the 1st. They extended their lead to 3-0 in the 3rd after a 2 RBI single by Matthew Burks. The Cane Cutters were not out of the fight, however, as they scored twice in the top of the 6th. Connor Barron (Southern Miss) tripled and scored on an error by the third baseman while Cameron Dishon (Ole Miss) scored on an Austin Knight (Ole Miss) groundout. The Cane Cutters kept battling and would tie it up at 3-3 in the 7thafter an Austin Knight RBI single. Neither team would score in the 9th and the game headed to extra innings. The game would go scoreless until the 12th when Pedro Barrios hit a walk-off single for the Generals.

TCL All-Star Ryan May (LSU) started on the mound for the Cane Cutters and threw 6 strong innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits. He did strikeout 3 Generals as well. Scott Szush (Southeastern) was called on in the 7th and threw one perfect inning in relief on May. Alec Sanchez (Texas State) was next in line out of the bullpen and he was clutch, throwing 3 shutout innings late in the game. Scott Ashford (Ole Miss) was brought on to throw in the 11th and was able to get out of a runner on 2nd with no outs without a run scoring. He was not as lucky in the 12th as he surrendered a walk off single.

Connor Barron led the offensive charge going 2-6 with a run scored. Austin Knight had a solid game as well going 2-5 with a 2 RBIs. Chance Vincent was 2-5.

Armando Arevalo got the win for the Victoria Generals. Scott Ashford got the loss for the Cane Cutters.
