CANE CUTTERS COMPLETE ROAD SWEEP OF GENERALS

08/03/2014 9:21 PM -

The Acadiana Cane Cutters pulled out another victory at the Victoria Generals on Sunday night by a score of 4-2 to stay in second place in the standings.

Victoria got the scoring started by plating two runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, but starting pitcher Hayden Guidry (University of Louisiana – Lafayette) and the Acadiana bullpen shut out the Generals for the rest of the contest.

The Cane Cutter offense would get rolling in the top of the 2nd inning as Marc Frazier (Nicholls State) drove in Taylor Walker (Jackson State Community College) from second base on an RBI double.

Connor Barron (Southern Mississippi) led off the top of the 6th inning with a triple and scored on a fielding miscue by the centerfielder on the same play to tie the game at two runs apiece. It was Barron’s fifth triple of the season.

Acadiana captured the lead going into 7th inning stretch time in Victoria when James Ziegler (Chandler-Gilbert Community College) and Trent Giambrone (Jones County Community College) knocked consecutive RBI base hits with a double that scored Austin Knight and a single that scored Ziegler, respectively.

With a 4-2 lead, Scott Szush (Southeastern Louisiana) pitched scoreless 7th and 8th innings, and Scott Ashford (Ole Miss) put another goose egg on the Victoria board in the 9th inning to pick up the save.

Guidry got the win on the mound tonight for Acadiana, and pitched six innings, allowing only two runs.
