07/22/2014 2:49 PM -

After a 3 game home stand, the Acadiana Cane Cutters went 3-0 before heading to Texas to take on the Brazos Valley Bombers.  Acadiana started off game one of the two game home series against the Texas Marshals winning the contest by a score of 4-1 after getting on the board early.  The team was lead by Nick Zaunbrecher, from UL, who pitched 5 innings only giving up a single run and 4 hits.  Game two of the series against the Marshals was a close one, with the Cane Cutters fighting until the end to force an extra inning after being down 3-2 in the 9th inning.  With two outs, Kennon Menard (Southeastern Louisiana) drew a walk and Connor Barron (Southern Mississippi) drove him home and sent the game to extra innings with a triple hit to right-center field.  In the bottom of the 10th, Trent Giambrone (Jones County Community College) sent Jalen Haskin (Pearl River Junior College) home with a single up the middle to win the ball game 4-3.  Despite bad weather during the day on Thursday, the Cane Cutters defeated the Pump Jacks by a score of 3-0 in a 6-inning game due to bad weather.  The second game of the series, also the highly anticipated Lyle Mouton bobble head night would be called due to weather as well.  The Lyle Mouton night will be rescheduled to Saturday, July 26th. The Cane Cutters fell short in the two-game series at the Brazos Valley Bombers losing both games by a score of 4-3.

For the first time this season, the Powerade Player of the Week has been awarded to Chance Vincent from the University of Alabama.  Through 7 games, Vincent held a .368 batting average.  Chance had a great week, recording his 3rd homerun of the season on Wednesday in Acadiana’s 4-3 comeback victory against the Texas Marshals.  On the week, Vincent was 7-19 with 3 RBIs, 1 run, 1 stolen base, and 2 walks.  He also recorded a .429 on base percentage and a .526 slugging percentage.  Through 30 games on the season, Vincent has 29 hits, 13 runs, 2 doubles, 3 homeruns, 18 RBIs and 8 stolen bases with a .269 batting average.

Also being awarded the honor of Powerade’s Pitcher of the Week for the first time this season is Ryan May from LSU.  Ryan was named to the Texas Collegiate League All-Star team two weeks ago along with five other Cane Cutters.  In that game, he pitched one inning and allowed one hit and struck out a batter.  In the 3-0 victory against the East Texas Pump Jacks on July 17th, May pitched 6 innings allowing only 3 hits with an ERA of 1.76.  May also struck out 4 batters and got the win for the Cane Cutters. On the season, May has recorded 1 win and 1 loss for the Cane Cutters in 11 games played and 1 game started.  He has pitched 30.2 innings, recording 19 strikeouts and allowing 19 hits in those 30 innings.

The Cane Cutters are currently 21-19 and are in 3rd place in the league.  The team returns to Fabacher Field tonight at 7:00 against the Victoria Generals who are currently in 2nd place in the TCL.  Tonight is Ladies’ Night where there will be plenty of raffle prizes and t-shirt giveaways.  The two-game series against the Generals will conclude on Wednesday before the Cane Cutters head back to Texas to take on the Brazos Valley Bombers and will return to Fabacher Field again on Saturday and Sunday to take on the Woodlands Strykers in a two-game series.  Saturday will feature our postponed Lyle Mouton Bobble Head Night, sponsored by Nursing Specialties, Inc., and Bike Night, sponsored by Cajun Harley Davidson.  The first 400 fans in attendance will receive a Lyle Mouton bobble head and the first 100 fans over the age of 21 will receive a free shot glass.  Sunday will be our Faith & Family Night at Fabacher Field where Trinity Bible Church’s Praise Band will provide music starting at 6:00.
