07/10/2014 10:22 PM -

The Acadiana Cane Cutters defeated the Brazos Valley Bombers by a score of 6-5 in a wild game this evening. The Cane Cutters jumped out first in the top of the 2nd inning when James Ziegler (Chandler Gilbert Community College) following up a Trent Giambrone (Jones County Community College) triple with an RBI single. Centerfielder Connor Barron (Southern Mississippi) then drove in Ziegler on an RBI double.

An eventful 3rd inning saw scoring from both teams. The Bombers scored three in the top half of the inning, including a double that plated two runners. Acadiana would quickly recapture the lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning with two runs of their own as Giambrone drove in Hunter Wood (Western Kentucky) and Chance Vincent (University of Alabama) on a double, bringing the tally to a 4-3 Cane Cutter lead.

The back and forth scoring would continue in the 7th inning. In the top half, Brazos Valley scored two runs on a single after drawing three walks. Again, Acadiana would bounce back and reclaim the lead, scoring twice in the bottom of the inning, with the help of an RBI double by Vincent.

Nick Zaunbrecher (University of Louisiana-Lafayette) got the start on the mound for the Cane Cutters, going 5 innings, allowing three runs and striking out five Bomber batters. Coach Lonny Landry would then call on Ryan May (Louisiana State) out of the bullpen and he delivered one and one-third innings pitched, allowing two runs and three walks, striking out one batter. Colton Lee (Pearl River Community College) finished the 7th inning for May after giving up one hit and earning the win. Evan Hebert (University of Arizona) got the call in the 8th inning and recorded the save, dealing two innings and striking out three batters.
