CANE CUTTERS WIN IN EXTRA INNING THRILLER

06/21/2014 10:00 PM -

The Acadiana Cane Cutters battled from behind to defeat the Victoria Generals by a score of 5-4 in 10 innings. The Generals got off to an early start, scoring two runs in the first inning and adding another score in the fourth inning to take the 3-0 lead. The Cutters would work their way back, however. The comeback started in the bottom of the 5th inning when Hunter Wood (Western Kentucky University) drove in Alex Tucker (Nicholls State) and Connor Barron (Southern Mississippi) on a single. In the 6th inning, Acadiana tied the game at three when Alex Tucker drove in James Ziegler (Chandler-Gilbert Community College). The Cane Cutters took the lead in the bottom of the 8th inning when Daniel Cucjen (University of Alabama) scored James Ziegler on a sacrifice fly, but the Generals tied the game again in the top of the 9thinning. With the game tied at four, Connor Barron became the game’s hero by driving in the winning run, Trey Hicks (Texas State University), on a single after Hicks slid in safely at the play at the plate.

Colton Lee (Pearl River Community College) picked up the win out of the bullpen, improving to 1-1 on the year.

After the walk off, the Cane Cutters improved to 14-6 and took sole possession of 2nd place in the standings.

The Cane Cutters also had transaction news today adding pitchers Hayden Guidry and Nick Zaunbrecher from the local University of Louisiana-Lafayette. Zaunbrecher made his Cane Cutter debut tonight, dealing one and two-thirds innings of scoreless ball in relief.
