POWERADE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

The Cane Cutters finished their six game stretch 4-1 with Sunday’s game canceled.  The team started off the stretch winning a double header against the Texas Marshals and split the two game series with the East Texas Pump Jacks before heading back to Fabacher Field on Saturday.  Saturday night, the Cane Cutters hosted their annual Military Appreciation Night, which was a huge success with a record crowd of 533 fans! The team won game 1 of the 2 game series against the Texas Marshals.  The second game of the series was postponed due to rain and will be rescheduled at a later date. Tickets from Sunday’s game can be redeemed at the box office for any other game with a comparable seat, depending on availability.

The PowerAde Player of the Week was awarded Taylor Walker of Jackson State Community College.  In game one of the double header against the Texas Marshals, Walker scored the lone run with a solo homerun in the first inning and went 2-3 at the plate.  In the second game, Walker was 2-3 with 1 double.  In the team’s 5-0 win against the East Texas Pump Jacks, Walker was 1-4 with 1 RBI.  In the Cane Cutter’s return to Fabacher Field for Military Night on Saturday, ­the team got off to an early start when Walker scored Connor Barron from Southern Mississippi from 3rd base on a sacrifice fly in the first inning and again in the 3rd inning when Walker drove in Barron on a groundout to give the team a 2-0 advantage.  Walker then hit a stand up double to left field in which Justin Holt came in as the pinch runner for Walker and scored on a sacrifice fly hit by James Ziegler.  Walker recorded 2 RBI’s and 1 hit in the Cane Cutters 3-1 win.  Over 14 games, Walker has recorded an astounding 152 putouts (in which he leads the TCL) and 4 assists for the Cane Cutters on defense.  Through the last 5 games, Walker recorded 17 at bats, 3 runs, 6 hits, 2 doubles, 1 homerun and 4 RBI’s and had an on base percentage of .368, a .647 slugging average and a batting average of .353.   Taylor currently leads the team with 16 hits and 12 RBI’s on the season thus far. 

Jake Winston, from Southern Miss, was selected as the PowerAde Pitcher of the Week for week 3 of the season.  Winston was the star of the team’s 5-0 victory over the East Texas Pump Jacks on June 12th for pitching 7 innings and allowing 0 runs, 2 hits, and striking out 9 Pump Jacks batters.  Winston was making his 3rd start of the year and is now 1-1 with a 4.86 ERA.  In his 3 games played, Winston has pitched 16 innings, recorded 13 strikeouts and allowed 12 hits. 

The Cane Cutters start a 3 game stretch of away games tonight against the Texas Marshals in McKinney, Texas.  Game starts at 7:00 PM.  The team travels to play in a two game series against East Texas Pump Jacks Thursday and will return to Fabacher Field on Saturday to take on the Victoria Generals.  Fans that were selected will participate in our Diamond Dig contest starting at 6:30 on Saturday and Sunday we will be celebrating Eddy’s birthday with a Kick Off Party at Kart Ranch from 2-3.
