CANE CUTTERS DROP 1ST ROAD GAME OF THE SEASON

 The Acadiana Cane Cutters lost their first road game of the year on Tuesday night 8-4 against the defending national champion Brazos Valley Bombers.

 

The Cane Cutters scored the first run of the game as Jalen Haskin (Pearl River Junior College) grounded out in the 3rd inning. The Bombers then came back to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom half of the 3rd. Brazos Valley extended their lead to 5-1 after a rough 5th inning on defense for the Cane Cutters. Acadiana made a comeback bid by scoring 3 in the 7th to bring the score to 5-4. The Bombers, however, were able to tack on 3 more runs and finish the game at the 8-4.

 

Freshman Cooper Jones (Southern Miss) started on the mound for Acadiana going 4 plus innings and giving up 5 runs a few of them being unearned. Cole Butler (Ranger JC) was brought in to ease the damage in his first outing of the year. Scott Ashford (Ole Miss) came in to finish the game for the Cane Cutters and gave up 3 runs.

 

At the plate for Acadiana, freshman catcher Alex Tucker (Western Kentucky) had big day by collecting a pair of hits, a stolen base and a run. Taylor Walker (Jackson State Community College) continued to swing the bat well by going 1-3 with a walk.   

 

For the Bombers, Hunter Haley had a pair of hits and a walk to lead the offense. Starting pitcher Matt Blackham was able to keep the Cane Cutters at bay in his first start of the year.

 

Cooper Jones got the loss tonight for the Cane Cutters and they are now 1-3. Matt Blackham got the win for the Bombers and they are now 5-0.
