POWERADE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

06/04/2014 8:17 AM -

The Acadiana Cane Cutters finished opening weekend of the 2014 season with one win against the East Texas Pump Jacks and two close losses to the Brazos Valley Bombers.  The second game against the East Texas Pump Jacks was rescheduled due to inclement weather to June 5th with two seven inning games starting at 6 PM at Fabacher Field.

Each week, Cane Cutters sponsor POWERADE selects a player of the week and pitcher of the week.
This week, Jackson State Community College first baseman Taylor Walker was named player of the week for his outstanding performance through the Cane Cutters first 3 games.  In his 12 at bats over three games, Taylor recorded 4 hits, 1 run, and 4 RBI’s with a .333 batting percentage, a .385 on base percentage, and a .167 slugging percentage for the Cane Cutters.  On defense, he recorded 36 putouts and 3 assists for the team.  In the Cane Cutters first win of the season, Taylor collected two hits and drove in three runs in Acadiana’s comeback from an early deficit and helped the team to a 5-4 victory against the East Texas Pump Jacks.
Pitcher of the week was awarded to right-handed pitcher acquired from Texas State University, Alec Sanchez for his performance in the May 31st game against the East Texas Pump Jacks.  Alec got his first playing time of the season on Saturday night after relieving Cody Coll of Western Kentucky University after 5 innings and giving up 3 runs.  Alec threw 3 shutout innings and recorded 3 strikeouts and got the Cane Cutters their first win of the season.
The Cane Cutters play tonight at the Brazos Valley Bombers starting at 7 PM.  The team returns to Fabacher Field on Thursday where they will complete a double-header against the Pump Jacks, with the first game starting at 6, and end the 7 game stretch against the Woodlands Strykers Sunday at 7 PM.
