CANE CUTTERS LOSE IN HEARTBREAKING FASHION

The Acadiana Cane Cutters lost to the defending Texas Collegiate League champions Brazos Valley Bombers 5-4 after losing the lead in the 8th inning. The Bombers scored one in the 9th and then shut down the Acadiana rally to earn the victory.

 

The Bombers started out the game hot scoring 3 runs in the first 2 innings. The Cane Cutters were able to answer scoring one in the 2nd and one in the 3rd. Acadiana took the lead in the fifth after an RBI triple by James Ziegler, and sacrifice fly by Hunter Wood. The Bombers tied the game in the 8th after an RBI single by Tucker Pennell. They scored the eventual winning run in the top of the 9th when Josh Foster scored on a fielder’s choice.

 

LSU product Jesse Stallings started the game for the Cane Cutters throwing 1.2 innings while giving up 3 runs. He was an All-SEC freshman two years ago and is making a comeback after sitting out the 2014 college season recovering from Tommy John Surgery. Jake Brumfield shut down the Bombers for 5.1 innings while striking out 5. Colten Lee finished out the game throwing 2 innings and giving up 2 runs.

 

At the plate for Acadiana, James Ziegler had a huge triple along with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Hunter Wood was 1-3 with a run and an RBI.

 

For the Bombers, Jimmy Norris was 3-3 with a run, a walk, and an RBI. Ford Moore contributed by going 2-3 with a run, a walk, and an RBI.

 

Nick Johnson picked up the win for the Bombers while Cannon Chadwick got the save. The Bombers are now 2-0. Colton Lee was the losing pitcher and Acadiana Cane Cutters are now 0-2.
