CANE CUTTERS SIGN TWO PITCHERS FROM LSU

05/01/2014 2:55 PM -

The Acadiana Cane Cutters of the Texas Collegiate League announced today that LSU pitchers Russell Reynolds and Jesse Stallings agreed to play for the Cane Cutters this summer. Both players received medical redshirts this spring.

Reynolds, a right-handed sophomore from Baton Rouge, LA, appeared in seven games for the Tigers last year, posting a 1.89 ERA in nineteen innings, before a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder cut his season short.

Stallings, a freshman right hander from Colfax, LA, is recovering from Tommy John surgery on his right elbow after injuring it during the fall his senior year of high school. At Grant High School, he was voted second team All-District in 2011 and 2012. In 2012, he posted a 7-2 record with a 2.10 ERA.

This year, the fifth ranked Tigers, who are five time NCAA champions, are 34-11-7 and average nearly 11,000 fans a home game.

“We are ecstatic with these signings,” Cane Cutters GM Bill Levy said. “For a program like LSU, that has experienced so much success year in and year out, to send us players speaks volumes. It validates what we are trying to accomplish here, and what we are about. Their close proximity to us, and the fact that they probably have the most loyal fan base in all of college baseball, makes it that much more rewarding. It is our pleasure to provide an outlet for their fans to monitor their progress this summer.”

Cane Cutters coach Lonny Landry said the pair will certainly play a key role in the pitching rotation.

“They are both very highly regarded prospects. We are excited to play a part in their development. We are also excited about having them help bolster our pitching staff.”

The Cane Cutters will open their fourth season on Thursday, May 29th when they host the Brazos Valley Bombers at Fabacher Field in what will be the first part of an “Opening Weekend.”  Last year, the bombers went 49-15 in capturing the mythical National Championship and #1 ranking in all of summer collegiate baseball by Perfect Game. The Cane Cutters and Bombers are part of the six-team Texas Collegiate League that features some of the Nation’s top college prospects. Season tickets are now available. Call(337) 451-6582.
