CANE CUTTERS SIGN TWO INFIELDERS

04/11/2014 8:49 AM -

The Acadiana Cane Cutters have announced they have signed a pair of infielders from the junior college ranks: Taylor Walker from Jackson (TN) State Community College and Trent Giambrone from Jones County (MS) Community College.

Walker, a 6’4” sophomore from Murfreesboro, TN, is hitting .341 with 8 RBI’s and is leading the 26-12 Generals with 44 RBI’s.

Giambrone, a 5’10” sophomore from Metairie, LA, has already committed to play at Nicholls State University. Drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 30thround out of high school, he batted .299 for the Bobcats last year and led the team with 15 stolen bases.

“They are exciting players,” said Cane Cutters coach Lonny Landry. “They each will add a vital dimension to our line-up.”

“This is shaping out to be one of our most talented teams in our four-year history,” Cane Cutters GM Bill Levy said. “As the TCL has become one of the premiere summer collegiate leagues in the nation, it is great to see the quality of players that Lonny is bringing in.”

The Cane Cutters will open their fourth season on Thursday, May 29th when they host the Brazos Valley Bombers at Fabacher Field in what will be the first part of an “Opening Weekend.”  Last year, the bombers went 49-15 in capturing the mythical National Championship and #1 ranking in all of summer collegiate baseball by Perfect Game. The Cane Cutters and Bombers are part of the six-team Texas Collegiate League that features some of the Nation’s top college prospects. Season tickets are now available. Call (337) 451-6582.
