Lonny Landry returns for 4th season; assistant coach Zach Butler also slated to come back.

The Acadiana Cane Cutters have announced that head coach Lonny Landry, who has guided the
squad since its inception, will return for his 4th season. Last year, Landry led the Cane Cutters to
a 32-28 overall record and a second place finish in the regular season. Also returning is assistant
coach Zach Butler.

Landry, a native of St. Martinville, LA, is currently the head coach at Ascension Episcopal. Previously, he headed the Teurlings Catholic program, and led them to appearances in the State Finals, State Semi-Finals and State Quarter Finals. A graduate of University of Louisiana at Lafayette, he played at Flagler College (FL) and also in the Detroit Tigers’ minor league system.

“I am really grateful that (team owners) Richard and Sandi Chalmers have asked me once again to lead the Cane Cutters for another season,” Landry said.  “I am really looking forward to our upcoming season and excited about the talent that we have coming to Acadiana this summer.  Once again, I am appreciative of our fan base that has followed us the last three summers, and look forward to seeing all you Cane Cutter fans out again for another successful season.”

Cane Cutters general manager Bill Levy said the team is fortunate to get Landry back the 2014 season.

“I think it speaks volumes about this organization, our ownership, this area, and our fan base that Coach Landry is so eager to return,” Levy said. “Not only is he an excellent baseball mind, but he is great with our fans and in the community.”

Entering is second season as the Cane Cutters assistant coach is Zach Butler. The former Dulles High School standout previously played for Temple Junior College and in the Tampa Ray’s minor league system. Butler is currently an assistant coach for the McNeese State baseball team.

The Cane Cutters will open their fourth season on Thursday, May 29th when they host the Brazos Valley Bombers at Fabacher Field in what will be the first part of an “Opening Weekend.” The Cane Cutters are part of the six-team Texas Collegiate League that features some of the Nation’s top college prospects.
