Acadiana's 4-1 Win Over East Texas Gives Team Series' Sweep06/09/2013 10:07 PM - The Cane Cutters treat fans to a fantastic night, capping the weekend series with a sweep of the East Texas Pump Jacks.
The Acadiana Cane Cutters wrapped up an impressive home stand on Sunday night with a 4-1 victory over the visiting East Texas Pump Jacks to complete the two-game series sweep. Fans who walked on two legs and even on four had their tails wagging in delight tonight, as it was also Bark in the Park presented by FM Bank.
This evening’s contest began with a true pitcher’s duel between the Cutters’ Kyle Cedotal and the Jack’s Jordan Johnson. Not a single run was scored until the bottom of the 6th when the Canes were able to scratch one across. Cedotal threw 6 2/3 innings, giving up no runs on 3 hits, and striking out 6. The Southeastern southpaw had great command of his pitches and his change was really working for him all night. East Texas starter Jordan Johnson was in the zone as well, recording 5 innings, giving up 2 hits, walking 2 hitters, while sitting down 5 on strikes. Both pitchers had tremendous outings; however they could have asked for better defense behind them as both squads combined for seven errors, five of which were credited to the Pump Jacks. Colter Bostick came in to relieve Johnson in the sixth, and was able to retire the first 2 hitters, but then struggled by loading the bases. Dillon Moritz then entered the ball game in relief to try and get out of the jam. Moritz walked in the first run of the game giving the Cane Cutters a 1-0 lead. The Pump Jacks knotted the game up at ones in the 7th, as they were able to chase Cedotal and get to the Acadiana bullpen. New Mexico Lobo reliever Victor Sanchez came in and was able to hold off any East Texas rally, cutting it off at just one run. The Cane Cutters began to chip away slowly as the team was able to tally another run in the 7th, but the Pump Jacks staff was able to limit the potential onslaught to just a solitary Acadiana run. The Cane Cutters left the bases loaded, leaving the door open for a big momentum swing as the teams went into the final frames of the game. University of Louisiana relief pitcher Nick Zaunbrecher made his Cane Cutters’ debut tonight in fantastic fashion. The righty entered the match the 8th and retired the side in order while fanning two. After a medley of Pump Jack errors in the bottom of the frame, Cane Cutters’ lead off man, Connor Barron, cashed in an RBI sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 3-1. Then, third-year man Brett Thornell came through with an RBI single to add some insurance, making it 4-1. Zaunbrecher would return to shut the door for the Cutters and tally the save, earning the team their second consecutive win and a two-game series sweep of a stout East Texas Pump Jack team. The Cane Cutters will now hit the road and head to Victoria, Texas for a middle of the week series against the Generals before returning to Fabacher for another visit from the East Texas Pump Jacks on Thursday and Friday night.
